Movie Reviews

I went to Ramba Theatre, Trichy along with my four childhood friends on the second day. First scene-e bayangara Visil. Ellar kathayum kizhichittom. Even i gave standing ovation and was clapping continously. Rajini-ku kooda ezhunthu ninnellam kai thatla. If you guess we all gave all these praises when they show Vijay, you are wrong. To all of our surprise, Malaikottai (Rockfort)-a kattitangappa Theatre-e chumma athiruchulla !

First praises to vijay. He had performed really well. Finally he had decided to move out of Remake track which is a good sign. Really his acting, mannerism is lot improved,He is able to bring some style and i feel he is lot lot better than what he was seen in pokkiri. Claps to Vijay. A R Rahman is good at music but not with his usual stuff. After seeing the movie i like maduraikku pogathadi which i dont like before. BGM is ok.

But…All other elements including shriya is a let down according to me, particularly director bharathan. Lots of poor joke and scenes in the name of comedy (santhanam is occasionally well), Forceful inclusion of songs and scenes prior to that, not so good climax, confused screenplay.

In this movie, Hero has Extra Sensory Power Perception(ESP) where he can tell the incidents which is going to happen in another 5 minutes or so (Later in the movie, this is also extended by pshycatrist doctor Rudran to 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month or 1 year). I have got this power much before the hero gets it. Not only me, whoever see this movie will get that power. Yes you can predict what is going to happen in another five minutes. Appadipatta screen play.

After starting scenes, i dont have much hope and expectation and was already bored with the scenes of shreya “uttifying ants with pongal”. Director lights up some expectation when he says Vijay have got ESP. At this point you will expect more from the movie’s screenplay but alas just for doing the “AaLmArAttam”, this ESP is used I agree with the point of vijay movie have to be commercial but why not with ESP, why the director changed the line? At the interval, where they show another vijay with first vijay having ESP – At this point, i really started to expect more. But after that, it is the same old grinded stuff. Sema kadi-pa

At the end I felt it as a long movie and believe me i had asked one of my friend during the climax scene of shreya’s boring lengthy lecture, “Dei etho oru padathula shreya erumbukku pongal uttuvale, enna padam da” Adi vizhatha kuraithan. Do i need to say that scene is from this film

With respect to songs, Choreographer thoongittarnu ninaikkirean except for “Ella pugazhum” and “Maduraikku pogathadi”. Vijay dances very well in all the songs especially in the first song. Shreya aaiyoo…Antha remix pattu, Ella rap pattu mathiriyum faceku munnadi viral kondu vandhu “Yo” podaranga. Mathapadi sollanumna, antha pattoda visual thandam. Namithava pidikravangalukku Marlyn Manroe romba pidikkum. Maduraikku pogathadi pattu is aptly choreographed. Kelamal – Hawww. Valayapatti – Hmm.

Intha paduthala punch dialogue “Evvalavo panrom Itha panna mattoma” – But that was told in comic sense. so ok. Anga Anga, konjam self buildup-m irukku as usually seen in any other vijay movie.

My opinion: I felt it is boring but lot better than his pokkiri kind of movies. Story could have been more interesting and screen play could have been better. Vijay’s performance is appreciable.

Sunday morning was too much traffic could not do anything much. Was getting traffic updates from family and friends and advised to stay at home. So after lunch decided to go see Tamil movie. Initially the idea was to watch Azhagiya Tamil magan. But the cousins who went for it advised against.

Ended up at one of our theatres and sat in good seats or so I thought. There was this bad smell coming from somewhere and going off. Realized that the guys next to us were putting their feet up on other people’s seats and taking it off. God wanted to throw up the smell was unbearable. The theatre was only a quarter occupied anyway covered my nose with a tissue and watched the whole movie. For a Sunday there were absolutely not many families around only bunches of guys.

The movie was a double Ghilli (Tamil movie viewers will know what I am talking about). The songs were not interesting at all, I love yuvan shanker but I don’t know what went wrong with this movie. At least had a good laugh at vadivelus antics (had nothing better to do that yawn so laughed at the same jokes). There was way too much fighting and violence but can watch once. One good point was there were no two heroines or that would have been way over the top. I think hari did not have time to put another heroine in.

Anbe Sivam – one of the most meaningful movie I have ever seen. I saw this movie for first time four years back when I was in college. I really regret for not watching this movie in theater, at least once. Though i felt that it was a good movie, i did not get the exact crux of the movie when i watched it for first time. Recently, i saw this movie again in one of the local television channel. I could not find enough words to praise this movie. In a scene where Madhavan donates his blood to save a small boy’s life and later he dies, I was totally engrossed in the movie and it made me to give a second thought on existence of god. But then, I am still a believer of god… may be coz I was inculcated like that… :-)

At some places during the second part of the movie, Kamal used to refer many people as God. On all such scenes, he reasons his sayings based on LOVE; on which the entire movie is based on. This movie showed me various dimensions of LOVE- including the conventional, quite cinematic love between Kamal and Kiran:-). In particular, I loved the love between Venkadesh and Uma Riyas – quite realistic, male bonding between Kamal and Madhavan at the end and last but not the least, the love between Kamal and Sangu, his dog.

At the end of the movie, it somehow convinces the viewers to believe LOVE is GOD and GOD is love. It is up to them how they take it in their part.

A memorable line from the title song .. ” manathin neelam ethuvo athuvey vazhvin neelamada” .. Don’t confine love. Let our love stretch out infinitely to all others. When our love madai thiranthu thavum pothu, our varum kalam will be, vasantha kalam .. naalum mangalam ..

p.s: it is pathetic that this movie was a flop and did not fetch a national award even though it greatly deserves so. :( .. enna kodumai sir ithu !!!
